Under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, Companies House now requires verified identities for directors, PSCs and anyone filing on a company's behalf — confirmed with a selfie and photo ID. We run these checks on TrustID's specialist platform, so you get their deep ACSP expertise without the enterprise contract. Pay only for the checks you submit. 

To use this service you need to be registered as an ACSP (Authorised Corporate Service Provider) with Companies House because you will need access to the ACSP portal to be able to record the fact that you have checked the data subject. The TrustID ACSP check provides the required checks for Companies House

If you don't use this check, your UK resident client has to verify their ID with Companies House, give you their personal code and then you have to get them to carry out another ID check for your own due diligence. This is twice the effort for your client. Instead, get them to carry out your identity check and  you can record the details in the ACSP portal to confirm that you have identified the client. They will  still receive their personal code but they only had to carry out one ID Check.

What's changed under the new rules

What is an ACSP identity check?
It's an identity verification carried out to meet the Companies House requirement to confirm the people behind a company — directors, people with significant control, and those filing on the company's behalf.
How is it different from a standard KYC check?
A standard KYC check can be carried out without photo id. An ACSP check is a higher bar: it requires a selfie and a photo ID document, plus biometric passport chip scan if available, all verified on TrustID's platform, because that's the standard Companies House expects for the people behind a company.
Who is TrustID, and why are they involved?
TrustID are identity-verification specialists who normally serve large enterprise clients. We carry out ACSP checks on their platform so you benefit from their expertise in the Companies House requirements — delivered through our pay-as-you-go service, with no enterprise contract.
How long does an ACSP check take?
Because it relies on a selfie and a document photo, the timing depends on how quickly your client completes the secure link. Once they've uploaded their selfie and ID, verification follows shortly after and you receive a PDF confirmation. If there isn't a good facial verification, rather than rejecting, TrustID will do a manual visual check which can introduce a delay but the delay is more likely to result in an approved match rather than a simple rejection because the computer couldn't  be 100% certain it was the same person
Do I have to be an ACSP to use this?
If you verify other people's identities for Companies House filings, you'll need to be registered as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider so that you have access to their portal for registering the personal details and the fact that you have carried out an identity check.  We do not carry out ACSP registration on your behalf.  You can use this check as an enhanced check without planning on registering it with Companies House. If you have potential concerns with a customer and they've acknowledged that they have a  biometric passport then you can get them to carry out the ACSP check and use the biometric chip check option
